We aim to ensure that at least 70p of every £1 raised will be available to spend on our life saving work, and the balance is invested to grow our income. This year 75p in every £1 raised was available to spend on charitable activities; the remaining 25p was invested to generate our income.
Last year we awarded an incredible £108.4m in life saving medical research grants that will improve how we prevent, diagnose and treat heart and circulatory disease. We’re committed to funding half a billion pounds of ground-breaking research by 2020 to deliver significant breakthroughs that will help change the lives of millions of people across the UK and globally.
Our generous supporters have helped us raised an incredible £136.4m towards our life saving work. This includes £83.4m left to us in legacies, and £53.0m raised by our generous supporters through community fundraising activities, corporate partnerships, events, major gifts and mass participation events.
Our 727 BHF shops across the UK generated £27.7 million in profit by collecting, sorting and selling around 73,000 tons of goods over the last year. While our shops and stores remain vibrant community hubs, our growing online activity saw 380,000 customers booking a furniture collection via our website, and we brought in £4.6m in eBay and online sales.
